What Silverstone handles

Every layer, not just the top one

A floor is only as good as what's under it. Squeaks, dips and gaps blamed on cheap product are usually subfloor prep that never happened.

Silverstone installs flooring on its own or as part of renovations and basement developments, with the same rule everywhere: flat before pretty.

The cost of getting this wrong: flooring laid over an unprepped subfloor telegraphs every dip, clicks apart at the seams and voids the manufacturer's warranty. Doing it twice costs more than doing the prep once.

  • Luxury vinyl plank (LVP). Waterproof, tough and family-proof. The default answer for kitchens, basements and rentals.
  • Laminate. Budget-friendly wood looks for bedrooms and living spaces.
  • Hardwood. The real thing, acclimatized and installed to spec in Calgary’s dry climate.
  • Tile. Entries, bathrooms and laundry rooms, set flat with clean grout lines.
  • Carpet. Bedrooms and basements where warm beats hard.
  • Subfloor prep and repair. Levelling, fastening and moisture checks before anything goes down.

Options & project types

Matching the floor to the room

Tell the quote form which rooms are in scope. These are the honest trade-offs we walk homeowners through.

Basements

Below grade wants LVP or carpet. Both handle slab reality well; hardwood down there is a moisture bet we’ll talk you out of.

Kitchens & baths

Water happens. LVP and tile shrug it off; laminate survives only the best behaved households.

Main living floors

Hardwood and wide-plank LVP carry the room. Calgary’s dry air rewards engineered hardwood over solid in most homes.

Bedrooms

Carpet for warmth or laminate/LVP for continuity with the rest of the floor. Comfort call, not a technical one.

Stairs

The highest-wear, highest-visibility flooring in the house, and the spot where corner-cutting shows first.

Whole-home continuity

One floor running door to door makes small homes feel bigger. Transitions planned, not improvised.

What's included

How a flooring job runs

  • Rooms and photos first. Room sizes and current-floor photos start the free estimate.
  • Written proposal. Product, prep, transitions and price in writing before anything is booked.
  • Material acclimatization. Product sits in the house the days it needs. Calgary’s dry air punishes skipped acclimatization.
  • Subfloor prep. Levelling compound, re-fastening and moisture checks as the scope requires.
  • Install and detail. Straight courses, tight seams, clean transitions and finished trim.
  • Walkthrough. Furniture-ready handover and care notes for the product installed.

What this looks like when it's working

Floors that run straight and quiet underfoot, transitions you don't trip over, and baseboards that look like they were always there. The room feels new from the ground up.

Budget honesty

What does flooring installation cost in Calgary?

Flooring quotes come down to area, product, and prep. The product you pick sets the material line; the state of your subfloor sets the labour line; stairs and transitions add the fiddly hours.

Removal matters too: hauling out old carpet is quick, while glued-down anything is real work. The written proposal separates every line so you can trade up or down with open eyes.

Room sizes and a few photos through the free quote form are enough to start.

  • Area and layout. Square footage sets the base; hallways, closets and angles add cutting time.
  • Product choice. Carpet and laminate to hardwood and tile spans a wide price range.
  • Subfloor condition. Levelling and repair are the honest line items many quotes leave out.
  • Stairs and transitions. The detail work that separates clean installs from average ones.

Common concerns

Flooring questions we hear most

"Can we supply our own flooring?"

Yes. Plenty of clients buy product on sale and have us install it. We'll confirm quantities including waste so you don't over- or under-buy.

"LVP or hardwood?"

LVP wins on water, dents and price; hardwood wins on warmth, refinishing and resale story. Household reality usually decides: kids, dogs and basements point to LVP.

"Do we have to move out?"

No. Rooms get sequenced so you're never without living space, and furniture moves are planned into the schedule.

Flooring FAQs

Quick answers

How much does flooring installation cost in Calgary?

Area, product and subfloor prep set the price, and prep is the line rushed quotes often skip. Silverstone quotes flooring free from room sizes and photos, with product options priced side by side in the written proposal.

What flooring is best for Calgary basements?

Luxury vinyl plank leads: it's waterproof, warm enough over subfloor systems, and unbothered by slab moisture swings. Carpet suits bedrooms down there. Solid hardwood below grade is a risk we don't recommend.

Does Calgary's dry climate affect hardwood?

Yes. Dry prairie air shrinks wood, so acclimatization and humidity control matter, and engineered hardwood outperforms solid in most homes here. We install to the manufacturer's spec so the warranty holds.

Can you install flooring we bought ourselves?

Yes. Supply-only clients are welcome. We confirm quantities with waste factored in and flag any product that won't suit the room it's destined for.

How long does installation take?

Most single-room installs finish quickly once material is acclimatized; whole-home jobs run room by room so the house stays livable. Your proposal includes the actual schedule.

Do you remove the old flooring?

Yes, removal and haul-away are quoted as their own line. Carpet is quick; glued or tiled surfaces take real labour, and the proposal says so up front.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes. Room dimensions and photos of the current floor are enough for the initial estimate. We measure on site before ordering.
